My love for cowboys started with reading Sun Kissed by Catherine Anderson and from there I started to find other cowboy type romances. Linda Lael Miller is by far one of my favourites whether she's writing historical romances or contemporary romances; her cowboys are hot and yummy. They are all talk with a soft side for strong and independent women. McKettrick's Choice is the 4th book in her McKettrick's Series. It is set in the Arizona Territory in 1888 where the land is rough and living is hard.

It is the story of Holt McKettrick who was raised in Texas away from his 3 brother; Rafe, Jeb and Kade who were raised in Arizona with their father. Holt, was left with his mother's family after she passed away. Holt returns to Texas to help a good friend of his get out of jail. Trouble ensues when he meets Lorelei. The story is about a group of men headed by Holt who are on their way to Mexico to get cattle. Lorelei, Melina and Tillie go with them are the only females who go with them. They are going to get cattle to replenish John Cavanaugh's ranch as well as finding a lawyer to help Gabe in Laredo, their last stop before Mexico. It is a very long trip where trouble arises at every turn. The banter between Holt and Lorelei is classic Miller. Lorelei is always getting into some sort of trouble that the good and honest Holt is getting her out of. Without giving too much away Holt saves her in the end when she needs him the most.

The romance comes in the form of witty banter and arguing till they both realize how much they want each other. The romance is almost almost near the end of the book. I do prefer my romance to start earlier, however, since I'm a sucker for this kind of story I will still give it out of 5 babies. I love the richness of the time period where you never know if the this will be the last time you may see someone or where they communicate by letter or telegram. It is so much more simpler than today.

The secondary characters in Miller's books are always fun characters who are smart and witty. Melina is the pregnant girlfriend of Gabe who they are trying to get out of jail, John is Holt's foster father and Tillie his foster sister, Gabe his long time friend and Rafe makes an appearance from High Country Bride.

Cowboys are seen as honest, upfront and hard working men which is probably why I have such a fascination with them. They are unlike a lot of the men of today. Please share with me your favourite Western Romances! I'm curious if others enjoy a cowboy the way I do!
